Current ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Loop) provides up to 6Mbit/sec download speeds and up to 900kb/sec upload speeds over standard copper phone lines. SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Loop) provides up to 1.5MB download speeds and 1.5MB upload speeds over standard copper phone lines. DSL technology has enabled many businesses to take advantage of speeds comparable to T1 and above at a fraction of the cost. Several anticipated advances in DSL technology now on the horizon promise even more benefits and versatile usage.

The implementation of DSL technology has not been a smooth one. The two biggest problems facing the DSL market today are a fairly long and cumbersome ordering process and over-subscription of DSL circuits. These problems have been widely publicized and have left a bad taste in the mouths of many who have tried to implement DSL service.
